Pineapple Sage (Salvia elegans)
The Pineapple Sage is a tender perennial plant with tubular red flowers and an attractive scent to the leaves. The scent has been compared to pineapple, while others have compared it to the odor of a martini. It produces numerous erect leafy stems and flowers in the late autumn. The red flowers are attractive to hummingbirds. Pineapple Sage does not normally produce fertile seed in cultivation. Commercial growers produce new plants asexually, through cuttings. Older literature refers to this species as S. rutilans. Pineapple Sage leaves are edible and can be steeped in hot water to make an herbal tea. More info: [link] Comments
Great Pic.. I Took one look at this beautiful flower and thought to myself thats my dark pink Salvia and I can see why, same family.. And what a delightful flower it is too.
I would love it to bring hummingbirds to my garden . -- Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. And today? Today is a gift. That's why we call it the present My mum grows these, she called it pineapple plant. They are lovely and I didn't know you could make tea with the leaves.
I have a pic somewhere might post it one day although it's no match for this stunning shot. -- ..... Clubs [link] |
